Sunil Sah – I am the first Nepalese dual-qualified Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon in the UK. I studied Dentistry at the University of Dhaka and Medicine at the University of London. I obtained my MFDS in Dentistry and MRCS in General Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh. I completed an accredited 5-year programme in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in Leicester, Derby, Lincoln and Nottingham, with numerous international presentations on trauma and facial deformity correction. After completing the intercollegiate FRCS in OMFS, I worked as a Locum Consultant post at John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford before moving to my current substantive post in 2014.

I have developed my clinical practice areas in oral surgery, salivary gland surgery, facial deformity, TMJ surgery and CMF trauma. I have a strong education and research interests. I have been involved in educational activities in the UK and abroad, being well aware of surgeons and allied professionals’ needs in low and middle-income countries; I devote much of my time and resources to training in these places of need. I have initiated and developed services and training programmes in countries including Nepal, India and Bangladesh.

I hold an Honorary Visiting Professorship in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at T.U. Teaching Hospital, Kathmandu, Nepal, has taught on AOCMF courses in Nepal and lectured on the management of facial deformity in Nepal and Bangladesh. I contributed a chapter in “The Earthquake Nepal 2015 – The human story” by Rosa Matheson. This chapter covered my experience as a British facial surgeon treating earthquake victims in Nepal.

I recently became a Trustee of a small UK Charity, Future Faces.  The charity aims to train and support the training and development of surgeons and allied professionals caring for people with all craniomaxillofacial deformities, including cleft lip and palate, trauma, and other problems in the head and neck region, in deprived areas of LMICs. The charity also works with other charities and educational organizations in the UK and abroad with the mission and vision of improving outcomes in craniofacial disease and deformity through local, sustainable capacity development.
